Book Release & Discussion “West Asia at War: Repression, Resistance and Great Power Games”

Pune International Centre was delighted to host Amb. Talmiz Ahmad, the former Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, as the guest speaker for a discussion on his book ‘West Asia at War: Repression, Resistance and Great Power Games’. Amb. Gautam Bambawale, former Indian Ambassador to China, Bhutan & former High Commissioner to Pakistan chaired the event. Dr. Alvite Singh Ningthoujam, Asst. Professor, Symbiosis School of International Studies participated as a discussant.
Amb. Ahmad said that popular resistance remains vibrant in the West Asia region as people continue to voice their discontent through demonstrations. When West Asia and North Africa are analysed collectively, it becomes apparent that major deprivation, poverty and unemployment exist across the region.
Amb. Bambawale was full of praise for the book which he said, “…has taken a long sweep of history to explain what is happening in the geography today”. The event concluded with a lively Q&A session with the audience.
